Things I'm Doing During the Quarantine

Things I'm Doing During the Quarantine

It's been almost a month since I've been in quarantine and honestly, I have been enjoying the slow time. I've been on unpaid leave since March 19 and even if I've been worried about my finances, I'm thankful for having this rest. I'm uncertain about when I can get back to work. The wait is giving me the jitters and that's why I'm always making it a point to think about other things to distract myself. Otherwise, I would be triggering my anxiety and I would overthink something I cannot control and we don't want that.

So, to take my mind off this global health crisis, here are some of the things that I've been doing to keep myself busy during the quarantine.

journaling

  • Journal-ing Everyday
When life happened, i.e. work, I have neglected my journal. The routine life just didn't give me the reason to put my life into bullets any more than I used to do before when I was a freelancer. Life has just been repetitive every day and I just didn't have the motivation and inspiration to fill in my journal. Now that I have so many idle time because of the lock-down, I figured I would just drop the bullet in the bullet journal and just do the traditional journaling. I've been religiously filling my notebook when April started and I hope that I can continue on this. It's been fulfilling to see the pages fill up. I can just imagine myself re-reading my entries in the future.

  • Watching and making TikTok Videos
Before the lockdown, I have downloaded the TikTok App and I wasn't expecting to be addicted to it. I was one of those people who used to cringed at people who use the app but when I installed it, I fell down the rabbit hole. 😅 Now, I have several videos uploaded. Because of this quarantine, I had a surplus of time and watching all these tiktokers move made me want to do the same as well. I never thought it would be so much fun. 😂 Account - @renalexis

  • Learning French with Duolingo
I've always wanted to learn French and so I started teaching myself a few months ago. Now that I have more time, I've been making it a goal to have at least 20 minutes of learning this language every day. I've been learning it with the Duolingo App and I'm proud to say that I know a number of French words already. I can understand and construct simple sentences now, too. It becomes difficult as the levels get higher but I'm enjoying it and I am really eager to learn the language.

reading books

  • Reading Books
I have also been reading books these days and I'm happy that I am just on time with my 2020 reading challenge on Goodreads. I reread the Hunger Games trilogy the past weeks and last night, I finished Warcross. I have already read 12 books so far this year. I'm hoping to read more and the next book in line is Regretting You by Colleen Hoover. I'm excited to read this one because I've heard good reviews about it. And CoHo is one of my favorite authors so I know I won't be disappointed.

  • Watching Netflix Series and Movies
I've been binge-watching series and movies on Netflix, too. I've finished Secret Garden, Hyde, Jekyll, Me, Kingdom, and Money Heist Part 4. Now I'm currently watching and switching between Hotel Del Luna, Prison Break, Another Miss Oh, and Sex Education. What series have you been watching? Drop me some recommendations. 😊

  • Listening to Podcasts
I've discovered podcasts in 2018. It's a refreshing media that entertains me whenever I am doing other stuff. I like the fact that I can listen to it whenever I take a shower or clean or cook or journal. My favorite podcast as of the moment is the Wake Up With Jim & Saab Podcast. I just love listening to them speaking out their minds. I like the topics that they discuss and how I could relate to some. I love the way they talk about a certain movie and give their in-depth reviews. I love their chemistry together and it makes me wish that I could, someday, have a Jim of my own. Another podcast I like listening to is the Victory Podcast, especially the episodes with Pastor Jeff Eliscupidez. I love hearing him preach, I learn so many things from him and it helped me strengthen my faith with God. Are you listening to podcasts? What are your favorites?

Dalgona Coffee

  • Perfecting the Dalgona Coffee
If there is one good thing I got out of TikTok, it would be learning about Dalgona Coffee. This trended in the app and I just couldn't get enough of it. My first try was a success and it tasted so good! I wouldn't have to go to a cafe to satisfy my coffee cravings, haha!

Ingredients: (my preference)
1 tbsp instant coffee
1 1/2 tbsp sugar
3 tbsp hot water
1 cup milk
1 cup ice

  • Playing games on my phone
I also play a number of games on my phone. A classic and forever favorite is Mobile Legends. Another game I've been addicted to is Homescapes. And then just recently, I installed Penguin Isle and Pix which I saw on a YouTube video. Other games I play to pass the time are Super Stylist, Design Home, Word Villas, Animal Restaurant, and Disney Arena. What are your favorite mobile games?

coloring books

  • Coloring Books
And then lastly, coloring adult color books. It's a solid past time when I just don't want to do anything mentioned above. When I color, it's either I listen to music on Spotify or listen to a podcast. It relaxes me as I choose which color pencil to use and which color scheme to make. Thank you for my generous sponsor who allowed me to color her books, haha!

This pandemic has caused a lot of casualties to the world and has given us endless worries every day. Our jobs have been in danger,  I hope that during this time, we all remain safe and vigilant. I have been praying that this crisis will end and that there will be more recoveries and that a vaccine will be developed. I encourage everyone to pray as well and be safe by staying in their homes if possible. If you really need to go outside, please take precautionary measures by using a face mask and gloves, and by observing social distancing of at least 2 meters. When reaching home, please sanitize yourself by taking a bath and washing your clothes so that you can avoid harming your family members. Always wash your hands with soap and water. When sneezing or coughing, cover your mouth with a tissue and dispose of that tissue properly. The only way we can battle this virus is by maintaining a proper hygiene and by observing social distancing. Take care of yourself and stay safe. xx
