Bury my bones in the midnight soil, plant them shallow and water them deep, and in my place will grow a feral rose, soft red petals hiding sharp white teeth.

I loved this book. The writing style and prose are up my alley, and it's been a while since I read something so hauntingly beautiful.

I don't often read vampire books, but this was such a breath of fresh air. It's so different from all the other books I've read. It's a fantasy, but also set in the past. I love the 3 timelines between the 3 women and how their lives were intertwined. It almost felt like how Weyward made me feel.

My favorite character would have to be Maria. She's very nuanced, very gray. I like how she was written. I rooted for her and was then horrified by her.

Anger and resentment are the worst. They’re like rocks in your pockets. Too many, and you’ll drown.

I liked reading through how the girls adjusted to their new lives. How they coped. How they accepted the change. How they fought their nature. It was all so vivid, as if I were there beside them, watching them as they went on.

I saw how a lot of people complained that this book was slow-paced, but for me, it was just the right amount. The emotional impact at the end was very satisfying that it left me contemplating, wanting for more.

If you like reading historical fiction or like characters who have so many layers, I would recommend this book to you. If you liked Weyward, you are going to enjoy this one.
