What I'm Reading These Days

Hi guys! How's everything? It's the weekend again and I just realized that we are already halfway through October. Two and half more months and we'll be welcoming a new year. Most, if not all, of us, have spent the majority of the year inside our homes. We all did our own thing to cope up with the stress that the pandemic has brought. Some learned how to cook, how to bake, how to grow a garden, how to take care of indoor plants, how to crochet; some started a small business while others shopped online (I'm in this group 😂). We all did something to make use of all the time we suddenly have. As for me, I made use of the time by doing things I wasn't able to do when I was busy with office work, reading is one of those.

In the past couple of months, when I was furloughed and suddenly had a lot of free time again, I did a lot of reading. I read books, blogs, articles, and webtoons. Throughout the days, I have just been consuming content, and while not everything I digested was great, there are certain contents that are noteworthy. Here are some of the things I have been reading these days:

The Hangman's Daughter

I started this book a week ago, right after I was done with King of Scars. I didn't know I had this until I rearranged my books when the book cart I ordered from Shopee arrived. Since it's October, I thought it would be fitting to read something mysterious and thrilling. This is a historical fiction set in the 1600s in Bavaria. I've always been drawn to historical fiction novels but I haven't really read a lot of them because of my YA fantasy obsession in the past few years. I am a hundred pages in and I like it! Every chapter has something intriguing, not once did I think that it was dragging. The mystery happened at the very beginning and the plot just keeps on becoming thicker as I leaf through the pages. I am excited to learn about how everything will pan out.

Read the book's synopsis here.

Articles in Medium

I've been in Medium for some time now and I always find interesting reads on this site. There are sooooo many articles here but I mostly read self-love, personal development, mindfulness, and health-related posts. Sometimes I read about books or sex and relationship write-ups. I do have a habit of being random, but my preference really depends on my mood.

Webtoons

I have also been reading a lot of webtoons. I have the app since 2019 and I am hooked to True Beauty! I look forward to new episodes of it every Wednesday and I've heard that there will be a Kdrama adaptation for this one. That's another something to look forward to! I hope they will nail the cast because the characters are everything! Aside from True Beauty, I also read Edith, Swimming Lessons for a Mermaid, Age Matters, My Giant Nerd Boyfriend, The Trash Mermaid, and Nice to Meet You. I have started Lore Olympus but I stopped midway. I'll get back to it though when I'm in the mood for some Persephone-Hades action.

Seth's Blog

I learn a lot of things in my job as copywriter. Whenever I do research, I discover new things. The latest I've discovered is Seth Godin's blog and when I scrolled through his blog, I instantly felt a connection. I love the articles he posts that I immediately subscribed to so I can be updated at once when something new has been posted. You should check it out, maybe it's also your cup of coffee!

Other People's Blogs

I have also been discovering a lot of gems lately. Whenever I'm in the mood, I blog hop and read other people's blogs. Sometimes I leave comments, but most of the time, I'm just the silent lurker. Check out my blogroll to see the blogs I've been loving lately.

I have finished 32 books out of my goal of 40 books this year and I am very satisfied with my pacing. Although I think I could read more than this number. I have a bunch of books here at home waiting to be picked up and read. I'm thinking of unhauling several ones, maybe sell them or give them away to someone who would appreciate them. I'll have to see to it before I make a decision.

What have you been doing this pandemic? What hobby have you developed? What skills have you been learning? Are you doing a lot of reading, too, like me? If so, care to share your favorite reads with me? Let's talk in the comment section below! xx
