Kalanggaman Island has been on my travel bucket list since 2016 and I can finally crash it out today! Last weekend, Jethro and I traveled many miles and hours away just to see Malapascua and Kalanggaman Island.

Kalanggaman Island is located just off the coast of Palompon, Leyte and it's a 1.5 to 2-hour boat ride away from Malapascua. It is famous for its long sandbar and pristine ocean and became instantly famous last 2015 when beautiful photos of the island were uploaded to social media. It probably made everyone, including me, wish to go and experience the island as soon as possible, haha!

How we got there:

Coming from Iligan City, we took a Cokaliong ship to Cebu and then took a bus from the Northern Bus Terminal to Maya port (travel time took 4-5 hours) and then took another boat ride (30 mins) to Malapascua. We spent the first day in Malapascua and the next day on Kalanggaman. In Malapascua Island, there are boatmen you can contact and talk to avail a package to go to Kalanggaman Island. The boat trip costs PHP800 per head and the boat you are going to ride can fit up to 30 persons. Also, the 800 pesos include a free lunch already so you won't have to worry about food. 😊

There are private boats available to take you to Kalanggaman, but they are way more expensive and we didn't have the extravagance for that. Obviously, we chose the cheaper option. 😉

We left Malapascua around 9:30 in the morning and arrived at Kalanggaman by 11. The trip usually takes 1.5 to 2 hours. Oh, and by the way, the entrance fee to the island is P150 per head.
My heart skipped a beat as we were nearing the island. It was just so beautiful that I can't take my eyes off it. The water was so inviting, its different hues of blue were enticing me to take a dip and just enjoy the salty sea.
We walked around the island first to take a look at all its angles. Every corner was so photogenic, I stopped several times to take photos. The sandbar was everything I hoped for. I am just so thankful I reached this corner of the earth.

There's not much you can do on the island but walk, explore, take photos, dip in the water, and just enjoy the full blast of nature. There was no data connection so you will really be cut off from everything internet-related. You can have a social media detox for a few hours and that's going to do more good than bad for you. I can vouch for that. 😊😁
We soaked up in the sun and talked about just anything. It's a really wonderful place to do an R&R. We walked around the island despite the scorching heat of the sun and took photos. We swam in the ocean and enjoyed the scenery. It was a great ending to a weekend getaway.
We left the island by 3 in the afternoon all with smiles, with new memories, and a whole lot of sunburn. 🌞

All in all, I really enjoyed experiencing Kalanggaman despite the long, long travel hours. Will I go back? Probably not just because it's too far away. I think seeing it once in a lifetime is enough. 💓

This trip made me tan up so much, I think I'm gonna take a break from having trips to the beach for a while. 😂 But then, the tan lines were worth it. Kalanggaman Island is an incredible place. I recommend it to all beach lovers out there!
