Love Letters to the Dead by Ava Dellaira

An Ava Dellaira Book Review

This book was a random pick. I was just done with Mockingjay (for the third time) the night before and I aimlessly brought this novel to work for leisure reading.

I finished it in a matter of hours and no, it wasn't a light read, but I loved every bit of it even though it broke me.

The concept of this book is unique. Although I've read books that use blog posts and diary entries as their way of storytelling, this one uses letters addressed to deceased famous people.

It was hauntingly beautiful to read Laura's thoughts in the letters she wrote. The life she has wasn't perfect and she was deeply scarred. Her letters were largely about missing her sister who was a huge part of her life. Her sister was her role model, the person whom she looks up to the most, the person whom she loves the most.

Laura's grief was almost tangible as the story progresses, her sorrow was much too real. The words she wrote were vivid enough to paint the colors of her emotions and it was dark but beautiful. Though the book amplifies Laura's sadness, her endeavors as a young lady growing up, trying to fit in and looking out for love was what made this story even more lovable and relate-able.

I really enjoyed reading this one. It was a little bit predictable but nevertheless, the ending still broke my heart. For those who are looking for reads similar to The Perks of Being a Wallflower, this is a good one.

Love Letters to the Dead is an excellent Ava Dellaira debut and I will be looking forward to read more of her books.

  1. It's been a while since I've read a book. I am not even done with The Heir haha The Selection series is what I've recently read. And I am hoping to read other books too.

I'd love to read this one, but I am a little scared with "death". But I think I'd give this a try, since I've read a "death-related" book, Thirteen Reasons Why, and it's pretty good too!

    1. It has mixed reviews on Goodreads but I personally like it. It's a good book :) I liked Thirteen Reasons Why, too, so I think you won't be disappointed with this one.
