Ichang Japanese Restaurant | My First Japanese Food Adventure!

Renee's First Japanese Restaurant Experience at Ichang Japanese Restaurant in Iligan City

Am I a total loser if I have just experienced my first Japanese cuisine in my 23 years of living? Hear me out why...

I am not a fan (haven't been and will never be, haha) of sushi, sashimi, maki's, and other food that has raw fish in it. I've tried eating raw fish, it did not end well. I do not like eating raw anything, except for vegetables. But raw fish, raw urchin, raw sea cucumbers, raw oysters - nope. This may be the reason why Japanese Restaurants have never really enticed me. What made me decide to eat in this restaurant, though, was because my boyfriend knows the owner and he has eaten here once, and he says their food were delicious. And they have ramen. And I love noodles, any kind of noodles really, so...

Renee's First Japanese Restaurant Experience at Ichang Japanese Restaurant in Iligan City

The Ichang Japanese Restaurant is new and is the second Japanese place in Iligan City (I think). It is located on The Strip in Pala-o. The ambiance inside the restaurant didn't really have that authentic Japanese feel but the food was heaven, my taste buds can guarantee you that. That's what's most important in a dining place, right? 😁

We ordered on what I think is a lot for only three diners. It was a heavy lunch, indeed, but my tummy was grateful for the treat. Here's what we ordered:

Seafoon Ramen
One Seafood Ramen for KC.
Tonkotsu Ramen
One Tonkotsu Ramen for me (this is one of their best sellers).
A boatload of California Maki for the group to share. 😂
And a plate of Tempura!

We also ordered a plate of kimchi which you can see in the first 2 photos. I forgot what Jethro had for that day and I wasn't able to take a close-up picture of his food because he immediately dug in when the orders arrived. Boys... 😂

I loved what I ordered, and also the Tempura was bomb! One thing I didn't like, though, is their California Maki (as expected), but it was just me because KC and Jethro liked it. I really wanted to like it as it was very pleasing to the eyes but sad to say I tried my best not to gag upon chewing and swallowing it. It just has that unpleasing taste that I dislike so much. Now it's safe to say that these kinds of food are really not my piece of cake. 😅

Overall conclusion? What we paid for was super worth it, I would love to go back sometime soon and taste their other ramen variety. This place is definitely a 5/5!
