This is the first book I have finished this year and so I thought it was quite fitting to make a review post about it. This has been sitting on my to-read list (like any other books) and I decided to pick it up because I have been curious about its title for the longest time. I have also read Nicola Yoon's Everything, Everything and I liked that one. Plus the book cover is really pretty so I was excited to get started.
This book was fast-paced and you can actually finish it in a day or two if you don't have anything going on in your schedule. I kind of was occupied with so many things so it took me a while to finish reading it.
The time span of the story of this book is only a whole day. And a lot has happened on that certain day. This book tells the story of strangers interconnected in life with every action they make. The writer wants the readers to think about the connections between each individual. Is it by fate, by destiny, or by pure coincidence? I don't know. One thing is for sure though, each individual was a crucial part of each other's lives. Without making the actions they've taken, the happenings of that certain day would not have been possible.
The writing style of this book is unique and I really like it. I like the tiny anecdotes in each new chapter and the quirky descriptions of each character. I like the changing of Point-of-Views (POVs) and how the author perfectly melded each and every one to have a specific role in each other's life.
The characters are unique, the main ones being Jamaican and Korean-American. This book also tackles the touchy subject - racism and discrimination. Some parts of the book angered me because it was just too much.
The main story was about 2 people who just met because of event circumstances, discovered that there's an unspeakable spark between them, and spent the day making memories together to see where that spark takes them. There is, of course, a twist in their blooming love story but I won't give it away because it is a major spoiler.
Albeit there's still a little part of me that is romantic, I lean more towards being reasonable and logical. This book is just too good to be true and this is why I just rated it a 3 out of 5 hearts.
