Anecdotes 13 | Gray Metal Lockers

Anecdotes 13 | Gray Metal Lockers

I would always arrive at school with minutes to spare before the morning bell rings. I remember I'd immediately head to my locker to gather the books I need for the first period. The school locker was located on the second floor near the stairs and it has four rows and five columns. I've always had the one in the second column of the second row. The height was not too high for me to tip my toes nor too low for me to bend down, and the placement was not at the edge nor at the center. For me, it was perfect.

I remember having conversations with friends and classmates there as we gather our stuff before the class starts or put our things away before heading home. It was a meeting place of sorts to see other students from other classes.

Those gray metal lockers were much coveted because the slots were limited. I would always reserve mine by the end of the school year so that no one would take my place. Thinking about it, I always liked carrying a small bag rather than lugging a huge backpack to bring all my books every day, so getting that locker was imperative for me.

There were a couple memorable locker moments I can still remember: somebody carrying my books for me, somebody catching me off guard in the morning as I got my things, somebody leaving a letter in my locker, somebody waiting for me there. If I think about it, so many cute moments happened in my high school life that I messed up all because I was too shy.

I wish I could play it all back. I wish I could see all those moments once again.
