Life Lately: Second Quarter of 2023

Life Lately: Second Quarter of 2023 - Renee Alexis

Am I only going to be updating this space quarterly? Maybe? Maybe not. It depends on my mood really, but I've figured that these quarterly posts will be the constant thing I'll be doing to keep this blog alive.

Hi guys, another quarter has come and gone and we're halfway through the year! A lot has happened to me and I'm actually excited and at the same time overwhelmed to write this post. Excited because I have a lot to share! And then overwhelmed because I don't know where to start. 😅

I've been occupied with things lately and one thought crept into my mind. Do I still know how to write long-form content? Because for the longest time, I've only been writing in lists, on Twitter, in bullets in my journal and notes. I haven't been practicing much and it's making me kind of insecure. But anyway, this is just another personal post so I'll be my usual casual self - uncensored and unfiltered.

Life Lately: April 2023

April

April started out with a bang. It was my grandmother's birthday on the 2nd, and relatives and cousins came to our home to join the celebration. It was only supposed to be an intimate gathering but it became a full-blown event when a cousin brought in their sound system and a karaoke festival commenced. In the afternoon of the same day, my cousins and I went to Durano Campsite in Kapatagan, Lanao del Norte (photos were in the previous post). We don't get together a lot and this was a bonding moment I enjoyed a lot.

A few weeks later in the month, I met with my girlfriends. We haven't got together since Christmas and so there was a lot of catching up and bonding over food - as per usual.

And then the highlight of my month was when I met my long-distance boyfriend for the first time in a long time. That's going to be another story for another time, but yes, I found myself falling in love with someone I knew since high school, and it has been such a bliss getting to know this person again now that we're both adults. 💖

Life Lately: May 2023

May

This month was unforgettable because I went to Davao City to see Honne! They're a British duo act that I discovered because of BTS a few years ago, and when they announced that they were coming to the Philippines for their world tour, I was ecstatic to know that they were not only going to Manila but also to Cebu and Davao. I grabbed the chance to see them because at least they were holding their concert somewhere nearer to me which doesn't happen all the time. It was a decision I would never forget. My boyfriend went with me and we had the greatest time vibing with the band, their music, and the crowd.

I got to explore more of the city (this was where I grew up and went to grade school and high school btw) and got to see some of my friends from high school. It was a 5-day trip that I really enjoyed because I got to unwind and get away from my usual life. It was a chance to refresh my soul and, in a way, recalibrate my life. It was a much needed break from my usual routine and this travel was just the first of many.

This was also the month when one of my closest friend's son was baptized and we got together for a little while. It was nice to see my friends hitting milestones after milestones and I'm just happy to be a part of it. I hope we get to share more moments like this in the future.

Life Lately: June 2023

June

June was probably the best and most exciting month for me this year so far. As you know, I've been a huge BTS fan since 2020. This year, the group slowed down on their group activities and focused more on their solo work. Suga of BTS announced that he was going on a solo world tour last February and my friend and I immediately got plane tickets for his Singapore leg. The day the concert tickets went on sale was heartbreaking for me because we weren't able to get them. The demand was just so high and unfortunately, we weren't favored to buy tickets. A few months passed and I didn't mind so much about our plane tickets until it was already the end of May. I told myself that if my friend is gonna push through with this travel, then I'd go as well. And she did, so we went to Singapore, hoping that we'll get concert tickets there. If not, then we'll be outside the venue, singing with other ARMYs.

We flew to Singapore on June 16th and we arrived at around 4 in the afternoon. We checked in at our hotel, freshened up, and enthusiastically went to Singapore Indoor Stadium. It was the first night of the concert and we were so excited to go there even though we didn't have tickets yet. There were a lot of people outside the venue, people who were just like us. Talk about dedication, right?

Anyway, to make the long story short, the show started at 7 on the dot and we were lining up on the merch booth to at least get something to remember this event by when suddenly my friend said she got us tickets. She told me not to be excited yet because there was a chance that those tickets weren't legit. We ran to the stadium entrance and presented our tickets. Our bags were checked and we were given wristbands. Our tickets were scanned and we were able to enter as Agust D was being performed by Yoongi.

I couldn't believe that we really were inside. I was rendered speechless and tears were in my eyes as I saw Yoongi rapping. I screamed and sang gibberish Korean with the crowd and that excitement I felt was the best feeling I've felt in a while. It was a dream come true and thinking about it right now, I still get high because I still couldn't believe our luck. Us flying to Singapore and being there was meant to be. I can't put much into words but I now believe that truly, fortune favors the bold. And I couldn't have been there without my friend's undying hope.

The second quarter was incredible and I am enjoying life to the fullest. I thought this year was just going to be another year that would pass by without me making memories, but it's becoming the opposite. I've made more memories in the past 3 months than I did in the past year! Maybe, unconsciously, I have been living so passionately this year knowing it's my last year in my 20s. And while I did put some things in the backseat for the time being, I've been enjoying the things I am actively doing.

This year has been a turning point, a plot twist as you'd say, and I have never been happier. I am so grateful. I can't wait to write more of my thoughts here on the blog. I might even be back for a while from my hiatus!

If you've reached this end, you have my thanks and appreciation, dear reader. Thank you for giving me your time of the day. I hope you are healthy and happy. xx
