ARMYdathon: A BTS-Inspired Readathon

ARMYdathon: A BTS-Inspired Readathon

It's been a year since I've joined a readathon. My last one was the Percydathon June of last year and I kinda went on a reading slump after that. Having been a part of the book community for years (albeit I'm just on the sidelines), I rarely join in readathons because I am terrible at commitments. I'm the type of reader who, for the life of me, cannot follow a monthly TBR because I am such a moody reader. This one, however, I couldn't miss. This readathon is hosted by Kath of @herbookishside and I am excited for this event to officially start!

I am still a baby Army and for the past few months, I've been consuming BTS content on a daily and just can't really go on a day without learning something new about them. I became a fan of the boys after listening to Life Goes On on repeat and as I dived deeper into their music, I found how meaningful and beautiful they are. In music, there is truly no language barrier. Even though I still can't understand the lyrics to their songs word for word, the feelings that these songs give off are remarkable and enough to make me a convert.

I'm excited about this readathon because Kath has thought up great prompts to coincide with a few of their discography. So without further ado, here are my picks. 😊

Prompts:

BORAHAE Prompt - Read a book that has at least 50% purple color on the cover

BORAHAE - Read a book that has at least 50% purple color on the cover.

Book: The Bone Witch by Rin Chupeco

I chose this book because this one has long been sitting on my TBR pile. This is the chance to finally open this book up and actually read it. I've heard mixed reviews about it but I'm keeping an unbiased mindset and just see how it goes. I won't set up any expectations so I won't be disappointed if ever those expectations aren't met.

Kim Nam Joon SEOUL Prompt - Read a Book that is set in your home country.

Kim Nam Joon SEOUL - Read a Book that is set in your home country.

Book: Patron Saints of Nothing by Randy Ribay

I don't think I've ever read a book that is set in the Philippines. I picked this book because I've been seeing a lot of raves about it on bookstagram and PH readers loved it. This is probably the book I'm most excited to read in this TBR!

Kim Seok Jin EPIPHANY Prompt - Read a book that has the word 'me, myself, or I' in the title.

Kim Seok Jin EPIPHANY - Read a book that has the word 'me, myself, or I' in the title.

Book: I Love You So Mochi by Sarah Kuhn

I've seen this book late last year and the cover is so cute! I am a sucker for YA contemporary romance books because these types of books always help me out of my reading slumps. I kinda have some expectations from this because I've read a few good reviews about it so I hope this one will give me the butterflies I long to feel.

Min Yoon Gi SHADOW Prompt - Read a scary book

Min Yoon Gi SHADOW - Read a scary book (thriller, mystery, horror, or any book that will give you a scare).

Book: Lock Every Door by Riley Sager

I don't read mystery thriller books that much. I'm more of a fantasy, sci-fi reader, so this prompt is going to get me to read a genre I don't normally do. I've seen this book from Kath and thought that the cover looks intriguing, it kinda reminds me of There's Someone Inside Your House. I've been meaning to read that book too, but this one interests me more.

Jung Ho Seok MAMA Prompt - Read a book about a mother or about anyone who plays the role of a mother

Jung Ho Seok MAMA - Read a book about a mother or about anyone who plays the role of a mother (grandmother, relative, single parent, queer parents, etc).

Book: The Wolf of Oren-Yaro by K.S Villoso

This is another book I keep seeing on my feed whenever I log in to my bookstagram account. There are a lot of raves about this and I've been wanting to add this to my unending TBR list. I actually had a hard time picking a book for this prompt because I didn't have any idea about books that features a mother's story aside from Regretting You which I have already read last year. I am so outdated when it comes to new releases because I don't really keep up with this news because there are just damn too many. So when the recommendations for each prompt was uploaded, I was just relieved to find something I wanted to read.

Park Ji Min SERENDIPITY Prompt - Read a romance book.

Park Ji Min SERENDIPITY - Read a romance book. To level up your experience, pick a smutty romance while listening to this song.

Book: Say You Still Love Me by K.A. Tucker

This book has been on my kindle for soooooo long, so I think it's high time for me to read it. At least I'd get to scratch out one book in my existing TBR list. 😅 I was thinking of reading a smutty book just because I'm in the mood, but let's see. Maybe I'll have backup books, haha!

Kim Tae Hyung SWEET NIGHT Prompt - Read a book with a moon or star on the cover or in the title.

Kim Tae Hyung SWEET NIGHT - Read a book with a moon or star on the cover or in the title.

Book: The Kingdom of Back by Marie Lu

I've included this book in my last TBR blog post and I am again including it here. See? I am not good at following TBRs. 😅 But for this readathon, I'll do my best to read all these books so that I can get the badges! HAHA

Jeon Jung Kook BEGIN Prompt - Read a debut book by an Asian author.

Jeon Jung Kook BEGIN - Read a debut book by an Asian author.

Book: I'll Be The One by Lyla Lee

For this last prompt, I'm reading this one. I only saw it on my Goodreads feed and I fell in love with the cover instantly. I also didn't know this was a debut book by an Asian author so when it appeared in the prompt recommendations, I was happy to list it on my own TBR.

So that's it for my Armydathon book picks! I'm excited about next month. There are so many things to look forward to and this is definitely one of them. I've been very lax on my readings, having only read 15 books since January, but then, it's not a contest is it? I've been reminding myself that the reason why I love reading is that I get to go on journeys whenever I lose myself in a book. And being pressured by seeing peers who have different reading speeds than me is not healthy at all. I always have to return back to my roots to remind myself that I can read at my own pace and that the number of books I've read is not an indication that I'm a good or bad reader. In the end, we all just love books and we consume them at our own disposal.

But then again, there are just too many books, no? And so little time. 😅 Oh well, happy reading, still! xx

Update: Here's a playlist of the songs for you to listen to while readings this post. ^_^ I hope it's not too late. I intended to put this here but I completely forgot. 😅
